Best Kratom Teas: Favorite Kratom Tea Recipes
What is Kratom Herbal Tea
Kratom herbal tea (Mitragyna speciosa) is a group of tree-like plants that belong to the coffee plant family (Rubiaceae). It has a long history in Southeast Asia, where locals make Kratom tea by brewing leaves of the kratom plant. They use it for various purposes, including support for pain, natural energy and even rest and relaxation†.
In recent years, kratom herbal tea continues to gain more and more popularity in the natural health community for its potential to naturally support occasional pain and to naturally elevate mood†. As such, we wanted to share a few of our favorite recipes/ways to help you enjoy our favorite superfood.
Lemon for Enhanced Strength
Hot brewed herbal tea with lemon is a simple and perfect way to enjoy your kratom. By adding lemon and or pre-soaking the leaves in lemon you may maximize the alkaloids you will pull from the leaves and may enhance the tea’s strength.
Steeping herbs and plants in hot water is a common method to extract alkaloids, flavonoids, and others desirable compounds. When it comes to kratom leaves, using boiling water is a good way to extract the alkaloids. While boiling water will NOT destroy the alkaloids, the average steeping of kratom leaves will not extract ALL the alkaloids. Therefore, if you want to extract as many of the alkaloids as reasonably possible, we recommend pre-soaking the dried leaves in a weak acid such as lemon juice or adding pure lemon or other citrus directly into your tea.
Cold Brew: Less Bitter and Perfect for a Hot Day
Cold brew has become a popular method for brewing tea because it lowers the acidity and lessens bitterness. As such, we embraces this method of tea consumption and recommend the following preparation recipe below:
Have the following readily available:
Ingredients:
• ETHA Kratom (dose to your liking)
• Jar
• Fresh, filtered water – 1 to 2 cups/250-500ml
• Funnel
• Coffee filter
• Vessel (glass, cup, etc)
Optional:
• Tea ball, muslin tea bag, or other infuser
• Flavor enhancers (honey, lemon, sugar, flavorings, etc.)
Directions:
1. Mix kratom and water in jar. Mix/shake well to ensure no dry patches or air bubbles are left behind.
2. Add any flavor enhancers desired (lemon is especially good at enhancing the effects of kratom)
3. Leave to draw for 8-12 hours in the refrigerator or on the counter. Lower temperature lessens the distasteful aroma and flavor, but also possibly the effects.
4. Put the coffee filter inside the funnel and pour the tea through (straining all the excess plant material from the liquid) to the glass.
5. Squeeze the filter, so the plant matter is no longer saturated. If needed, the kratom can be strained several times.
Many people make larger batches of kratom herbal tea for multiple uses by scaling up the recipe. Regardless of whichever method you choose, finished kratom herbal tea can be stored in the refrigerator in a sealed container for up to 5 days.
