Mitragyna Speciosa, more commonly known as kratom, is a tropical evergreen tree in the coffee family (Rubiaceae) native to Southeast Asia. As a large evergreen tree, mitragyna speciosa can grow upwards of 80 feet tall while producing lustrous leaves and budding flowers. The veins of the leaves are distinct and vary in color from a light yellow to deep green and brownish red.
People across Southeast Asia have been using kratom leaves for centuries to restore natural energy levels and alleviate occasional discomfort. People would chew on kratom leaves and spit out the leaves after a few moments allowing the juices to flow into their system. Another popular way to enjoy kratom would be to brew some leaves in hot water to make a kratom herbal tea. This is particularly popular in the morning before strenuous labor and in the evening during a meal with friends and family.

Issues With Importing Kratom
Most of the world's kratom comes out of Indonesia. The problem with the current kratom supply chain out of Indonesia is two-fold. The kratom coming out of Indonesia is not consistent in alkaloid profiles so you are left guessing and hoping you receive what you need. Secondly, the quality is questionable. Indonesia does not have an established kratom market with regulations and quality standards. Therefore, people are left to rely on the word of the kratom farmers as to the quality of the kratom they receive. In reality, however, no one actually knows what they will get until they physically get the kratom and can test it. Therefore, this guessing game as to the quality sometimes has a great result and other times the whole incoming harvest needs to be scraped due to various contamination and quality issues.
How ETHA Makes Kratom Consistent
ETHA has made it part of its mission to recognize, address and remedy the issues with importing kratom. First, we select the very best farms out of Thailand and Indonesia to import our kratom. We complete our 360 degree testing methodology where we test at the farm, test at our facility, and send samples to both 3rd-party, independent labs and our partners at Oregon State University. We use all this data to create an accurate alkaloid profile for all the kratom we import. From there, we mix in our California grown kratom into each kratom harvest we import in order to adjust the overall alkaloid profiles according to the recipes for each of our products. We grow several kratom varieties with known alkaloid profiles, so we mix in what variety we need to an imported harvest to create the profile we need.
