Oxford, Mississippi AKA Press Conference 10.1.2026
October 1, 2026, the AKA sent a letter to Attorney General Fitch urging her to amend her call for a statewide ban and to join Lafayette County investigators in targeting the dangerous synthetic opioid products instead. We also offered Mississippi officials scientific expertise, testing protocols and model statutory language. Read the letter and our statement here.
Why this matters to YOU
This is not only a Mississippi story. The media storm that misidentified kratom has empowered anti-kratom advocates across the country, and they are using these headlines to push for new state and local bans.
Lawmakers who saw the first headlines may never see the clarification unless we put it in front of them.
The AKA will be working hard in every one of these fights to protect consumers and preserve access to safe, natural kratom. But we cannot do it without tremendous support from you.
We need your help
Correcting a national news story takes resources. So does sending experts to hearings, getting accurate science to lawmakers, and responding quickly each time a new ban proposal appears. The AKA is funded by advocates like you. Please help if you can.
Two other things you can do right now:
Share the press conference video with friends, family and on social media.
Two young men lost their lives, and their families deserve a serious and effective response. This begins with identifying the actual problem accurately.
Thank you for your support.
